Therapy

I offer therapy services to clients living in Massachusetts, Florida, and/or New York. I am private pay meaning that I do not take insurance, but your insurance company may reimburse you for costs.

Therapy is a collaborative space to explore emotional patterns, life stressors, and internal conflicts that may be impacting your well-being. Using evidence-based approaches, we address concerns like anxiety, depression, or trauma while honoring how culture, identity, and lived experience shape your mental health and healing process.

I provide therapy to clients who live in the U.S. states of Massachusetts, New York, and/or Florida. I provide coaching services to clients globally.

(If you request an appointment, I will call you within 1-2 business days for a non-binding 10-minute phone consultation).

Therapy that meets you where you are.

Research has shown that telehealth psychotherapy is just as effective as in-vivo (in person) therapy. I offer telehealth sessions to clients living in both Massachusetts, New York, and Florida. I use secure HIPAA-Compliant video conferencing to meet with clients. No need to download any programs, you are able to join from the comfort of your home or office using any smart device (mobile phones and tablets included) via a web link.

What do I treat?

I am able to provide evidence-based treatment for many mental health concerns such as:

Anxiety and mood disorders

Anxiety and depression are the most common mental health concerns. I help people to explore patterns and consider how both their own internal thinking and their external environment contribute to their symptoms. I treat depression, generalized anxiety, phobias, social/performance anxiety, panic disorder and health/illness anxiety.

Identity-related concerns

Most people carry aspects of their identity that the world hasn’t fully embraced. Those often labeled as “minorities” (e.g., women, Black people, LGBTQ+ folks, immigrants) are, more accurately, minoritized—navigating systems not built with them in mind. I take a strengths-based, compassionate approach to help clients build resilience amid invalidation and structural adversity.

Coping with chronic health issues

Having a chronic physical illness on top of a mental health issue adds additional complexity. I help patients with adjusting to and coping with chronic illness. Many times we unintentionally add additional suffering on top of the physical or emotional pain that comes with physical illness. I work with individuals with HIV, heart disease, cancer and chronic pain. I also provide treatment to support weight management and to reduce insomnia.

General Life Improvement Coaching

Some clients can use concrete skills to improve aspects of their lives. In a coaching relationship, we focus on acquiring and applying skills for general life improvement. I provide coaching for: mindfulness and stress management, ADHD and organization, dating and relationships, sexual health/satisfaction, and communication skills (speaking and listening).

Adjustment Issues.

Life is full of changes, some of which are more easy to adapt to than others. In response to certain changes people may experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, or both as they try to figure out a “new normal.” I help clients cope with changes including moving, new jobs, and new relationships or living situations.

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

Traumatic events change the way that we think about ourselves, other people, and the world in the areas of trust, power/control, self-esteem, and intimacy. While these changes may appear to help us, they actually make us think about things in a way that is no longer helpful for us after the traumatic event. I use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to help people process painful events in a way that helps them become unstuck from the past.

What to Expect?

  • We will begin with a free 15-min consultation call to help you gauge if we are a good fit. If we determine that it is a good fit, therapy will begin with a diagnostic assessment. This assessment typically occurs over 1-2 one-hour sessions. The assessment will include biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that may be affecting your well-being. This is an in-depth assessment that will likely be more detailed than other therapy appointments you have had.

  • After the first session, I will typically ask you to take one week to brainstorm at least three goals you would like to achieve over the course of 3-months (the length of a short course of therapy). These goals will ensure that treatment remains meaningful for you.

We will use cognitive behavioral techniques from various modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT, etc.) to help you achieve your goals.

Therapy typically produces the best results with a consistent weekly schedule. A typical course of cognitive-behavioral therapy is 12-20 sessions. Many clients continue to receive benefit from therapy and continue beyond this, but you should expect to see marked improvement within this timeframe.

  • I aim to provide you with skills that you can use to manage stressors and enhance your well-being. While we work together for 1-hour weekly, but there 168 hours in a week. Therefore, after each session I will typically ask you to complete a “homework” assignment, which will help you to apply what we discuss in the therapy hour to the many hours you spend outside of therapy.

    Examples of skills include:

    • Mindfulness of how you respond to stress in terms of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

    • Learning to recognize and change unhelpful thoughts that only make you feel bad.

    • Engaging in activities to promote a sense of pleasure, mastery, social connection, and physical vitality.

    • Acceptance of difficult circumstances that cannot be changed.

    • Assertive communication

    • Tolerating difficult situations without making them worse.

    • Relaxation techniques

  • While people often continue to benefit between 12-20 sessions, my goal is not to keep you in therapy forever. As we make progress on your goals and life becomes easier and lighter for you, we may slow down the cadence of our meetings. Instead of meeting weekly, we may meet biweekly or monthly in order to let you float on your own using your skills while still having the support of your therapist.

I am a private pay, out of network provider meaning that I do not take insurance; however, your insurance may be willing to reimburse you. Clients are typically able to have about 30-60% of my rate reimbursed depending on the plan. I am happy to assist you in this process by providing a receipt for services. I do take Health Savings and Flex Spending Account (HSA/FSA) payments.

I have chosen not to be on insurance panels for multiple reasons: 1) Insurance requires a diagnosis to be kept on file thus putting limitations on client confidentiality, 2) Insurance companies may place limits on treatment sessions regardless of whether this is in the best interest of the client, 3) Insurance reimburses all providers equally regardless of their level of specialization or the quality of their training, and 4) Insurance carries a paperwork burden, which takes away time from my providing clinical care. I provide quality goal-oriented clinical care backed by empirical research with goal of alleviating your symptoms using the fewest number of sessions possible.

If you are looking for a therapist who takes your insurance, I recommend utilizing www.psychologytoday.com to find someone. This service allows you to search providers in your area and filter them according to your preferences (including insurance-related preferences). Look for someone with training in cognitive-behavioral techniques who is a good personality match for you and try it out.
